GUWAHATI: The Chandan Nagar road at Survey in the Beltola area here, which culminates at Jayanagar, is in an extremely dilapidated condition as it has remained unrepaired for over a year.

The road is full of huge potholes and it is especially hazardous for rickshaws, cycles and mechanized two-wheelers, besides pedestrians. During the ongoing rainy season, water accumulates in the deep potholes and makes travelling on the road more fraught with danger. According a local resident, repeated complaints to the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) have failed to elicit any action. Even the Deputy Commissioner's office has been apprised of the problem, the local resident said.

Several accidents have occurred on the road of late, he said, adding that a young schoolgirl fell into a water-filled pothole recently and sustained injuries. Several local residents echoed this view and pointed out that the road is an important link road within the city and needs to be repaired.
